PARENT TEACHER CLUB

The parents and staff at Dunlap have formed a group known as the "PTC" in order to support the positive environment of the school.  Typically, parents, with the support and help of teachers and students, hold a Carnival each year as a fund-raiser and school spirit day.  With the funds raised at the carnival, students are given help with field trips, awards, special cultural programs, books for the library, the music program, etc.

The PTC meets one day each month in the evening.  We often have student performances to enjoy.  Attending the meetings is a nice way to get to know the school and community.  We strongly encourage all parents to attend.  Your participation is vital to the success of the students.  Getting involved with the school helps to make our school a great place for your children to learn and grow!

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL

The School Site Council is an important group to be part of if you are interested in having a voice in school program decision-making.  The members of this group have voting powers and make recommendations about school-wide programs and budget as stated in the "School Plan".  The School Plan covers all aspects of the school.  It is reviewed and updated by the school staff members and parents on an annual basis and by the state every three years.  An equal number of parents and staff members are elected to serve as members of this group for a two-year period.  However, all parents and staff members are invited to attend meetings and participate.  Everyone who attends has an opportunity to be involved in discussions and it is a great way for parents to really get to know what the school is all about.  This group meets once a month during the school year.

PARENT OR COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS

The Dunlap School Community values the many parent and community volunteers who are involved in the school.  All interested persons are encouraged to contact the classroom teacher for an assignment, attend the PTC meetings to support school activities, or contact the Principal if interested in supporting the Reading Volunteer Program that we initiated in 1996/97.  In this program, volunteers will meet with selected students to listen to them read and discuss their reading in a one-to-one setting.  The goal of this program is to increase students' skills and interest in reading.  Please check in with the office each time before meeting with your selected student/students.

We also have an after-school enrichment program for which we need volunteers to take on a craft or another special interest class one afternoon a week from 2:30-4:00 for a specified number of weeks.  The school will provide the classroom and the materials needed for the class.  Please contact the School Office if you are interested in volunteering.
